My journey is as an artist and an educator. In college, I studied art and graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts with a teaching certification K-12. At that time, my work was mostly painting large abstract watercolors. I went on to graduate school for several years in an MFA program where I focused on printmaking. My career was as an educator, teacher, principal, and director of curriculum and instruction. When time allowed I painted and did some pottery. Now as a full time artist I focus on watercolor painting and pottery. In my painting, I am inspired by mood, texture and color. I am influenced by nature and like to create mood with abstract landscapes and sometimes florals. My pottery is almost always wheel thrown usually creating one piece at a time. I like to carve into clay or draw with underglazes. My painting and works in clay are explorations, a discovery of techniques that leads to manipulations causing a feeling or reaction for the viewer. Those connections are what is important for me in my work.
